My Brave Face is a book about a mother with osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as brittle bones, and how her son inherited this disease with severity. Heather Simpson divided this book into six parts. Each part is attributed to Stephen, his son, through the different stages of his life. Written from the first-person point of view, the author expresses her own experiences with strong emotion, which made me attached to the story.

With the strong emotions that the author maintained until the last pages of the chapter, I felt what she had felt, too. I hoped with her and her husband when Stephen was still an infant showing normalcy and free from brittle bones. I cried with her when she couldn't hold herself together, especially through the hard times. I laughed with them and traveled with them through the places they went together. Reading this book makes me feel welcome, as the author and the characters are welcoming by nature.

I love every aspect of this book. Heather and her husband, Ray, are very kind people; it's not surprising that they've raised a good son together. In this book, the author shows how she and her husband worked hard and transferred to a place where opportunity is at its peak. They showed how strong their relationship is by not even doubting each other despite financial instability, Stephen's disease, and other external factors that might break their marriage. They remained intact and loyal to each other. I also applaud their willpower to overcome the emotional and physical struggles that the disease of Stephen had brought them. They never got tired of Stephen and continued to provide for his needs even though they were struggling themselves.

Stephen, despite his adversary, remained positive and humorous about life. I felt sad at first because of his physical appearance and imagined how hard it was for him. But my sympathy turned into admiration when I knew him more through every chapter. He's a man of bravery; that's all I can say. His positive outlook on life and his faith are unbelievable. He has an open mind that would attract a lot of companions who also admire him. He gained a lot of friends throughout his life and lived a life full of happiness.

I only found five errors, which did not detract from my enjoyment of reading. Because of this and all the positive aspects that I stated above, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book is recommended for mothers with children with disabilities; it will surely make them feel understood. I also suggest that readers who want something different try this book. This book will change their outlook on life and make them reflect on all the positive things that are happening in their lives.
