Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream for Peace is a memoir by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. This book starts by telling the story of Dr. Ghoulem and how he grew to become who he was. Born in a small village in Algeria, he grew up during the period when Algeria was still under the rule of the French. During this period, he witnessed the sidelining and discrimination against his people. These experiences fueled his passion and drive to become a freedom fighter. He was awarded an academic scholarship to study medicine abroad, and this was where he went deeper into fighting against discrimination. He was relentless in his struggle to stop discrimination. How did he achieve this dream to attain peace?
I loved this book, and the best part of this book for me was when the author realized that violence cannot solve violence. Most cases of violence in the world today are tackled by violence, which is why violence never seems to end. Dr. Ghoulem used to act that way until he finally embraced peace as the only way to tackle violence and corruption. After embracing peace as a means to fight discrimination and violence, he started to get results. This story will serve as a big lesson to readers so that they shun any form of violence and completely embrace peace.
The bulkiness of this book seemed intimidating to me at first. I wondered how I would finish the book, and I think this may be a little disadvantageous for impatient readers. However, when I started reading this book, I fell in love with it. The storytelling was impressive. The descriptions were backed with actual pictures that authenticated the stories being told. Another wonderful thing about this book is that it was educational, and I got to learn many new things from reading it. For example, I never knew that Algeria was colonized by France until I read this book.
I think this book deserves a full rating because of its potential impact on the readers who will be reading it. This book will help and educate a lot of people, and for all these reasons, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I found some errors in this book, but these errors did not disrupt my reading of this book, and this shows that this book was professionally edited.
I recommend this book to lovers of memoirs. I recommend this book to freedom fighters and people who are fighting for any reasonable cause. It will help them make the right decisions by approaching peace and not instigating violence.
