Being able to see life from another view, especially when you have a life-threatening illness, changes your meaning of life. Life is short, beautiful, precious, priceless and should be appreciated more. Go on this life-changing journey with Sue and Bruce in Dying Well: Our Journey of Love and Loss by Susan Ducharme Hoben. Thanks to this book, I am more grateful and more appreciative of my life, family and the memories we have together.

Although she was feeling better and the side effects of her previous ill health were wearing off, she was diagnosed with a benign tumor in her heart at the hospital. She was hospitalized immediately for surgery. Her surgery went well and as she promised, she threw a party to celebrate life with all her family and friends. Eight years later, her husband, Bruce, was diagnosed with a tumor in his esophagus. This news devastated both the couple and their families. Sue and Bruce promised to keep them updated, so they won't be bothered so much.

After the first treatment, the cancer returned. The doctor advised that he tries another treatment but Bruce decided against it and made his own decision. To know what Bruce's decision was, read the rest of the book.

I love the theme of love used by the author in this book, despite the difficulties and differences they conquered everything with lots of love in their hearts. One thing I learned from this book is that cancer can be genetic, it was new to me and I was glad I had read this book. Furthermore, the parties and vacations were one of the things I was eager to read about. I must say, Sue and Bruce, made beautiful and precious memories together. Sue and her husband had open hearts as they were fond of celebrating any occasion or win with people at their place most times. Their relationship with people is worth emulating.

The maturity displayed by Sue while handling the issue with her sister, Jane, was admirable. Bruce is a brave man and that made him my role model in this book. The writing style of this book was simple. It was professionally edited. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because of the positive aspects mentioned above.

I recommend Dying Well: Our Journey of Love and Loss to readers who love memoirs and to older people in our society. Likewise, I recommend this book to doctors and surgeons that love to read books about their profession.
