Dr. Ghoulem Berrah’s life story in A Dream for Peace is an exciting memoir that captures the essence of a freedom fighter, international diplomat, and ambassador who dedicated his life to achieving peace. Born in Aïn Beïda, a small town in the province of Constantine, in northeastern Algeria during the time of the French annexation, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah’s life was one of activism and dedication to the cause of peace. As co-founder of the Association of North African Muslim Students, he played a significant role in the Algerian Revolution. However, this was just the beginning of a long and illustrious career.

What sets Dr. Ghoulem Berrah apart is the diversity of his achievements in different fields. He worked as a physician for the Ministry of Health in Morocco, and later as a researcher at Indiana University, where he studied the process of inhibition in DNA synthesis. In 1963, he received his PhD in Microbiology from Indiana University and went on to become a professor at Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah’s ambition did not stop there. In 1965, he became an adviser to Côte d'Ivoire's Foreign Ministry and a close advisor to President Félix Houphouët-Boigny, eventually becoming the ambassador until the president's death in 1993. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah played a vital role in resolving the relationship between Israel and Palestine and was part of the Ivory Coast delegation to the United Nations General Assembly. The detailed account of these events makes for fascinating reading.

A Dream for Peace is a well-written and professionally edited book that is both informative and engaging. Despite its length of almost 600 pages, the book is easy to read and is a testament to Dr. Ghoulem Berrah’s adventurous life. The book’s attention to detail and behind-the-scenes accounts make it an even better read, while the inclusion of photographs adds to its overall appeal.

There are no negative aspects to this book. It is a captivating read that offers valuable insights into Dr. Ghoulem Berrah’s work towards peace. His ambitious nature, determination, and refusal to give up are qualities that readers can learn from. The book deserves a rating of 4 out of 4 , as well as an overall 5 out of 5 star rating and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in reading biographies, history, or African history in particular. It is worth noting that the book is long and requires patience and time to read, but the effort is well worth it.

In conclusion, A Dream for Peace is a book that chronicles the remarkable life of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, a man whose dedication to the cause of peace is inspiring. His story is a reminder of the power of persistence and determination in the pursuit of a worthy cause. It is a must-read for anyone interested in learning about the life of an extraordinary individual who made a significant impact on the world.
