A failed pursuit in the Navy career plunges John R. "Rusty" Potter into a 35-year-old career in air control after testing the waters. Mr. Potter has had his own fair share of struggles, disappointments, and trials in achieving a fulfilling career. However, at a point in his life, he witnesses a stable and steady progression in a newly found career. How much success does he derive from working in the aviation industry as an air traffic controller?

The success stories, trials, and tragic moments enlisted in the book will spur any earnest reader into wanting to delve into their own personal careers and apply everything that has been learned. As for me, I learned, in a very detailed way, about the operations in the aviation industry and how much has evolved in it, as well as how air traffic controllers also play a very huge role in the industry.

There were events that the author narrated that evoked laughter from me on occasion. These events also proved to be stress-relieving, which is a big plus.

The writing technique of Cleared for Takeoff is simple, concise, straight to the point, and clear, thereby leaving no room for vagueness or a lack of clarity. One would admire its unique nature and the author's profound power of story telling. After reading this book, I can proudly say that my knowledge of aviation skyrocketed from zero to a decent amount of percentage because I certainly learned a lot.

I think every good book should have an element of humor, no matter how insignificant it might be in the book. There are some anecdotes which were shared by Mr. Potter and which readers will find amusing and learn from as well. The anecdotes have subtle meanings attached to them that would make one think. They are also of a witty nature.

To make this book better, its plot and structure should be looked into. To me, this is the only area of this book that needs brushing up, and I give other areas a big thumbs up.

Overall, Cleared for Takeoff is a well-written memoir with so many positive aspects.

Additionally, and more pleasantly, the book lacked errors, which pinpoints the fact that it was professionally and thoroughly edited. Therefore, this earns it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

An audience intent on achieving a successful career will highly benefit from the contents of this book, and as a result, I recommend it to them.
