In this dangerous world, is peace even possible? Being a diplomat is difficult. Becoming one requires courage, wit, wisdom, and genius. In his book, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah describes his life. He was a diplomat from Algeria who worked for his nation. He has successfully carried out several missions by being a competent messenger and calming dangerous situations. What kind of work did he do?

Every president of a third-world nation was required to attend this meeting. Yet because he didn't trust their judgment, President Houphout chose not to participate in this conference. But in 1973, he went when President Boumédiène, a friend, invited him. Fidel Castro, the president of Cuba, was one of the presidents who disliked Algeria's leader. Hence, he incorporated slurs against him in his discourse. When he saw this speech, President Boumédiène attempted to head off difficulties by asking President Castro to amend it, but Castro refused. How was this going to be handled to keep things peaceful? What role did Dr. Ghoulem play in resolving this issue?

Reading about the life of Dr. Ghoulem was interesting. Reading about the author's family history was the first thing I liked about the book. In his formative years, his mother served as a foundation of support for his schooling. Also, reading about his romantic life was quite intriguing. Ghoulem had charming qualities. He spent his entire life seeking peace and justice. His marriage was one such occasion. He married a devoted Catholic after growing up as a devout Muslim. Despite their differing theological views, he and his wife got along well and never experienced conflict. The understanding the author had with his wife will be quite instructive for many couples.

The only thing I disliked about this book was its many pages. Some of its contents bored me because I thought they were irrelevant. Aside from that, the book contained a wealth of other information, particularly concerning Africa. Reading about the many dignitaries the author encountered was educational. I got a glimpse of the African political structure. The author's diplomatic efforts were motivational. That increased my respect for ambassadors and their work on behalf of their nations.

I give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. While reading A Dream For Peace, I didn't see any errors. The editing was outstanding. Although quite long, the book provides enough insightful information for those interested in politics and history. Even though I thought some of its substance was unnecessary, there wasn't much of it, and it didn't stop me from enjoying the book. Those who enjoy reading about notable personalities, African history, and African politics should pick up this book.
