Review of The Power Within
Our passion often blinds us, and the drive to pursue it to get what we desire can sometimes be a stumbling block to sustaining a healthy relationship with the outside world and those we love. L. Todd Kelly, in his book, The Power Within, shares his struggles as a trial lawyer and their effect on his family. The book explores the themes of betrayal, passion, and justice.
Todd lost his will to live after his world crumbled down due to a case he lost. Recounting his experience while serving in the Marines and how he became a trial lawyer, the author exposes his readers to the many hurdles he had to overcome. He further talks about his relationship life and issues with Marysue, his wife. The reader also knows his shortcomings as a father and a husband. This book is an eye-opener to enlighten the readers on how every decision an individual makes affects his or her future. Please read this book to discover what becomes of Todd after the light at the end of his tunnel is shut off.
This 203-page book, consisting of twenty chapters, is highly organized. The book takes an in-depth look into the life of the author and his journey to gain redemption. The book is steeped in many life-long lessons that make readers dig deep within themselves and discover who they are. The author incorporates images into the book at intervals which aids the understanding of the reader and also helps them to put a face to the names mentioned in the book. The author's writing style is simple and easy to understand.
One of the things I loved and found noteworthy in the book is the knowledge it contains and the critical thinking it made me undergo as I learned from the author's mistakes. I loved the author's addition of a poem at the end of each chapter; it gave me a better understanding of the message being passed across in each chapter. My favorite poem is in Chapter 7, titled The Cuts, which talks about trust and betrayal. It opened my eyes to a whole new perspective on the hurt of being betrayed by one's family or close friend. No one is perfect, which is why I admire Marysue; although she had flaws, she was there for her children and was a good mother. She served as an embodiment of strength.
I found nothing to dislike in the book and enjoyed reading every bit of it. I noticed a few grammatical errors while reading the book, but they did not hinder my reading process. Therefore, I rate The Power Within 5 out of 5 stars.
In conclusion, this book will inspire and strengthen every reader to live a life of purpose. I recommend this book to individuals puzzled about what step to take as their life journey unfolds. It will also appeal to individuals who desire to be an instrument of change wherever they find themselves.
