Purpose by Gina Bianchini is an easy and enjoyable read. I read the book in about 3 Sunday afternoons. I selected this book to gain insights into my own personal and professional life and to help discover my own purpose. The first half of the book delivers on that promise. Gina suggests an activity that has worked for her. She recommends that readers spend 30 minutes a day following a journal prompt. I am not a journaling person…but I want to and did not have a clear starting path. Her suggested purpose path provides a great starting place to journal as well as to discover your purpose. She proposes 5 questions for you to think about and jot down your thoughts. As she explains in the book, she recommends you do this with a favorite beverage in hand.

After you discover your purpose, Bianchini invites you to create a community and find others who may fill this community. I am not interested in creating an online community, but I have joined some in the past as I explored different interests and her words hit the nail on the head. She provides the tools to find your ideal member and build a niche community for just the right people.

The book is easy to read. The pace is calm and serene. Bianchini offers research and personal anecdotes throughout the book. She provides a retrospective peek at the rise and bust of technology and social media. I am not a tech wizard by any means, and I did not get lost in these passages; I lived through the tech boom as a child/teenager and I found it interesting to see an inside view and different perspective of that era. Through Bianchini’s ability to weave these various components into one cohesive idea, you gain the tools to find your purpose, and build a purposeful community.

Overall, I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. I like the pace and the author does a great job of intertwining the idea of finding community with technology in a way that is easy for the layman (myself!) to not get lost in the details. I do take one star off because I felt the end of the book tied too closely with starting your own community and did not tie into a more general idea of purpose. I am an introvert, and Bianchini’s suggestion to interview or ask a friend for coffee to sample your “ideal member” terrifies me. That is not something I enjoy and not something I anticipate doing in the near future.
