Review of Seeking... Finding... Healing...
Becky Lu Jackson delivers a wonderful, insightful, and informative book about personal healing. Seeking... Finding... Healing... explores the mechanisms one needs to achieve a complete inner transformation to lead a healthy personal and family life. The self-help book includes an honest and relatable personal recount of healing to help others find the same relief.
Seeking... Finding... Healing... is a true and honest account of how damaging behavioral habits can affect families and the people who exhibit them. This book takes a deep dive into Becky Lu Jackson's experiences with past trauma and what steps she took to elevate her pain. The author identifies techniques that are easy to implement so that readers can adopt them easily into their daily lives, which will help them with their own trauma. Becky Lu Jackson uses an interesting spiritual perspective to approach the journey of healing. This is not to be confused with religion, as themes of God and the universe are used in a universal manner and not taken from one religion. This makes it more agreeable to readers who aren’t particularly religious, or perhaps even readers who follow a particular religion, since it is not religiously exclusive. I, believe in God and follow a particular religion, so I found it refreshing that the author’s take was from a spiritual rather than a religious perspective, since had it been a particular one other than my own, I may have found it harder to agree with the author.
The exercises mentioned in the book are both helpful and insightful and describe how to remedy childhood wounds and become the type of person whom your inner child can look up to. It forces the reader to think about old habits and to reinvent themselves by thinking better of themselves. A repetitive message in this book that I most admire about self-help books is that the answers lie within us. It is up to us to change our own lives, and the answers we seek are right there within us. The book seeks to help you become a better person both on an intrapersonal and interpersonal level. I think it’s important that the author mentioned the connection between family members and healing because they are often the people who are most affected by our actions.
It was difficult to find anything negative to say about this book, as it was well-written and exceptionally well-edited. I think the only thing I can think to say is that perhaps I would appreciate more exercises grounded in research and psychology. Many of the techniques used in the book are somewhat grounded in psychology and are better described as someone's understanding of how to overcome trauma based on their own opinions.
I would recommend this book to lovers of self-help books who are religious or can appreciate the idea of healing being grounded in spirituality. People who have struggled with trauma in their lives and want to heal will also benefit from this book. I would not recommend this book to people who are atheists or don’t believe in spirituality.
Therefore, considering all the positives I have listed, I think Seeking... Finding... Healing... deserves 5 out of 5 stars and is a must-read. I loved reading about Becky Lu Jackson’s journey of healing and the techniques she used to do so. I admire her honesty and bravery in writing about her trauma, and I think she is definitely an author to watch.
