Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's book, A Dream For Peace, is a unique blend of autobiography and fiction that depicts a story of resilience, loyalty, and patriotism. The book recounts Ghoulem's journey as a young man fighting for Algeria's freedom from French colonizers who sought to erase the country's culture and replace it with their own. During his studies at Bordeaux, Ghoulem was actively involved in political activism and even led an organization that fought for Algeria's liberation. Unfortunately, his actions landed him in prison.

In A Dream For Peace, Ghoulem shares his experiences as a medical student at Bordeaux and later as a diplomat serving as a special advisor, emissary, and ambassador at Indiana University, Bloomington. His diplomatic skills were put to the test when he faced the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a seemingly insurmountable challenge that he tackled head-on. Ghoulem challenged the status quo and advocated for dialogue and peace between Israel and its Arab neighbors, a feat that many believed impossible.

For decades, Algeria, among other African nations, experienced immense hardship as they struggled for independence after enduring years of mistreatment and exploitation under their colonial masters. The people yearned for freedom to obtain the autonomy they so desperately craved and to take actions to rectify the alleged injustices committed against their fellow countrymen and women. The author sheds light on exceptional leaders who led with a unique style of governance that prioritized the needs of the people. Sadly, their legacies were cut short by their successors, resulting in a regression of progress and the persistence of racism in Africa. This book captivated me for numerous reasons, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

There were various reasons why I found reading this book to be an enjoyable experience. Firstly, the author's style of writing and narration had a captivating effect on me, and the level of detail included was impressive. As a reader, I could easily relate to the message being conveyed, and I had no difficulty comprehending the author's narration. In addition to this, the book was highly enlightening, informative, and educational, providing me with a wealth of information about significant events in Algerian history as well as some fascinating historical facts about other African countries such as Cote d'Ivoire, Morocco, and several others. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of knowledge I gained from reading this book, making it a highly recommended read.

The author of the book did an exceptional job of introducing new terms and giving intricate details about his life and the country that were captivating. Through his writing, he was able to mirror the struggles that many Africans have experienced. One specific instance was when the author was in line to receive an award, and the presenter deliberately avoided contact with him, which was not the case with the previous recipient, who received a warm embrace. Reading Dr. Berrah's perspective on topics such as racism, faith, and world peace was enlightening and engaging. Discovering this story was a true pleasure, and I felt privileged to learn from such an accomplished author. His exceptional character traits, such as his devotion, loyalty, patriotism, and spirituality, added to the richness of the experience.

There was nothing I disliked about this work. The book was professionally edited. I only found two errors. I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book to every political enthusiast out there.
