Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream for Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is a book about a man with a dream to set his people free. The book is about his life’s journey, starting from his land of birth all the way through to when he became a politician of global recognition. This book is like a biography or a memoir of his life and his impact. He came from a very humble background and found a way to rise above his peers and conditions, eventually becoming the adviser to the president of the foreign ministry in another country.
The book is made up of seventeen chapters, which is a compilation of 644 pages. The book narrates how he started his life's journey from his childhood home in Algeria, which was originally under the control of the colonial government. The colonialists were French, and they controlled the country’s economy and administration, which was not easy on the citizens. He was raised by a single mother, which also made it more difficult for him after the demise of his father. He was lucky to be among the Algerian students given a scholarship to study in France due to his academic brilliance and his capabilities. He had a flare for politics, and when he was abroad, he integrated himself and involved himself in creating peace, and he tried his best to help countries achieve peace, not minding putting himself at risk. This dedication to freedom fighting took him to great heights, as he also influenced his home country to also gain independence. His attitude should be studied and practiced by most African leaders we have today because it is worth emulating.
What I like about the book is how he did not allow religion to stop him from marrying his Christian wife. He was also involved in peace talks and missions and did not mind putting himself in danger, no matter the cost. He was originally a medical student, but he did not allow that to kill his desire to become a great political activist. The author is very skilled, as he found a way to carry the readers along and made us feel like we were part of his journey, making it an emotional roller coaster of experiences.
The book is a great read, but some parts of this book were written in French. Other than that, the book was well written and professionally edited. There were a few errors, but they are hardly noticeable.
I rate this book four out of five stars and will recommend it for lovers of motivational literature, freedom, and African history.
