I've read this book, and I was also in awe of the author's resilience and courage, especially when she finally decided to leave Brazil with her son to start a new life. I also agree with you and wished that she and her husband could have had the chance to talk together about their ordeal to start the process of healing.

It is not always easy to have a horrible experience, and still come out and share it, so that people can learn. I appreciate the author for this wonderful book, and to the reviewer, you did a good job. Congratulations on the BOTD

Gruesome scenes do not sound very appealing to me, so I will pass on this one. However, I do appreciate the bravery the author had in sharing what she went through; I am sure there were no dry eyes while she had to relive her experiences. Thanks for the review!

Karen is a strong woman and I'm glad she still proceeded with her plans and learned to fend for herself although there were so many uncertainties and she lacked the skills to stay on her own and raise a child.

I commend the author's tenacity and courage to pen this memoir, after passing through such ordeal.
I wonder what her brother Rex was really up to.
Congrats on the BOTD!

The story seems to be fictional, but alas, it is a memoir. I love the author's courage; through it all, she was resilient and persistent. Any wonder she succeeds despite her initial woes. Thanks for the review.

Unfortunately, this book is definitely not my cup of tea, because I like nothing about it. Starting with my general dislike of non-fiction as a genre and memoirs in particular, ending with the fact that the first person's point narrative is my less preferred. Sorry, I will have to skip it, but congrats with BOTD, anyway!

It seems from the review that it is a story burdened with feelings, and although I am not ready to read this type now, I have great respect for the author's ability to express her experience, as well as my belief that we can save ourselves and learn what we lack in skills when we need that.
Life is hard on its own so let's make it easier for each other if we could.

I don't usually enjoy memoirs, but I was mesmerized by a short sample of this one. I look forward to reading the whole of it. Thanks for the great review

This sounds so inspirational. Just from your review, I admire the author’s strength. I want to know more about the events that lead to her jail and all the things that happened when she was there and how she endured it. I loved that you said that “ a lack of skills is never a reason to quit,” because sometimes, I quit because I don’t know how to do things and that line was a good wake up call. So I look forward to learning more about the author and her story. Great review!

As Karen travels through this gruesome landscape of injustice and abuse, you are there with her. Reliving those terrible experiences must have been really hard but enabled her to not be a victim anymore.

The author in this review has opened her life to the reader while she seeking to cleanse some of her experiences with truth. The review is well thought out for such a moving memoir. The cruelty and abuse is palpable. The reviewer presents the facts well and with good taste.
