Review of Effective Prayers
Knowing how to pray to get desired answers is a basic training every Christian should undergo. It is important to know when, how, and where to pray. Effective Prayers: Prayers That Move God’s Heart by Godwin Arisa is a book that teaches Christians what they need to know about prayer. The author starts by talking about what prayer is and isn't. He addresses the common misconceptions about prayers as well as answers some frequently asked questions about prayer. The author also goes ahead to share encouraging stories to motivate Christians on their journey with God.
This book was inspiring for me. While reading, I found a lot of reasons to pray, and I did put it down to pray sometimes. The book also had a lot of lessons, and one that struck me the most was the issue of forgiveness, and this is because I think every day it gets harder for people to forgive their offenders, and I am not an exception. One other thing that I liked about the lesson on forgiveness is that the author did not just talk about it but also gave helpful advice on how to go about forgiving. This was also done with all of the other problems that he addressed. The book was also interesting to read as the author shared some interesting stories, a strategy that kept me from being overwhelmed with a lot of lessons and made it relatable.
The author communicated effectively. Everything he explained was easy for me to understand and believe, as many of the things were things that I already knew, although I still needed more clarification. The only thing that I didn’t quite appreciate was the inconsistency with the name of God, "YHWN," which he sometimes presented as "YHVN." While this was not wrong, I would have appreciated it if he had stuck with one. This, however, wasn’t a big issue for me because I got to know, after confirming it on the internet, that it could be used both ways.
The book was exciting for me and added to my knowledge about God and prayer. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. This was an amazing book that would have received a perfect rating from me, but it had a lot of obvious punctuation issues that made it appear to not have been properly edited. Aside from the editing issues, it was an excellent book and deserved a good rating from me. I appreciated the author’s courage in sharing some personal stories in this book. Also, I realised the author was not trying to show how knowledgeable he is but just wanted to help believers grow in intimacy with God and get results from prayers.
I would recommend this book to new believers who are trying to know more about getting results from prayer or just enjoying the act of prayer. It will also benefit older believers who also want the same thing. Also, I would recommend this to anyone struggling with forgiveness; this book will be of great help to them. The book will also appeal to those struggling with their faith in God.
