Snatched Up to Heaven! by Jemima Paul, Ph.D. and Arvind Paul
Snatched Up to Heaven! is the story of two sisters, Priyanka and Deepika, who are taken to heaven by angels. It is written by their parents, Jemima Paul, Ph.D. and Arvind Paul. Each chapter starts with what the children saw, followed by their parent’s interpretation of it. I enjoy reading about the experiences of people who have gone to heaven or hell but I am skeptical of the truthfulness of the reported visions; I need to determine if the book was written simply to sell a book or if it is a true account. This book is different from others I have read because the people who had the experiences are very young children (Priyanka is four years old and Deepika is two years old) and they were taken to both heaven and hell.
At first, I did not like the format because I didn’t know if I could trust it. I wasn’t convinced that the parents had not made up what the children allegedly said, or manipulated what the girls said in order to make a better story, or that they were simply incorrect in their interpretation of it. I wanted to hear it directly from the girls. Then I found out that Priyanka and Deepika are on utube giving their testimony so I watched it. Occasionally, their mother asked a question but she did not lead them to answer in any way. It was clear that the children believed these experiences happened to them and that the authors reported the visions in the book as the girls described them. The video of the sisters completes the story and makes it more believable.
I discovered that the authors are Christian theologians which explained their ability to provide supporting scriptures with additional details to confirm that what Priyanka and Deepika saw and did lined up with the Bible. There is no way a four-year old, much less a two-year old, would know that what they are describing is documented in the Bible. I have found some common threads in the experiences of people who have gone to heaven and the girls share some of these. One is that they all report incredibly beautiful colors but they are impossible to describe accurately because we don’t have the words for the vibrancy and shades of the colors in heaven.
There are quite a few things I liked about this book. It gave me, or led me, to the information I needed to confirm the probability of the accuracy of the visions: I heard the account directly from the children, the authors educational background reduced the possibility of interpretation errors, and as sincere Christians who love their children and Jesus I do not think it is in their natures to tell a false story about their children or Jesus. As reassured as I could be, I sat back and enjoyed the story. I did not find any grammatical errors. There is nothing I did not like about it. It challenged me to review my own interpretation of certain scriptures and I liked that too. Because of all of this I rate this book 5 out of 5.
This book would be of interest to anyone wanting to explore what heaven and hell are like. Also, it could be used to open discussions with children. The authors also wrote “Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids” which may be a good way to introduce the story first. I think children telling their own experiences to other children would be interesting and non-threatening for them. There is nothing in the book that is not suitable for children.
