Review of Purpose
The humankind of the planet earth is trying and struggling to constantly get happiness and satisfaction. And it may be agreed that it is still not able to get the same and to find the meaning in life. 'The mounting research available shows that finding the meaning in life is not about generic “happiness” or entertainment but through having a purpose.' This is the main or key point considered by Gina Bianchini in her book Purpose. She has narrated ' a way to uncover, solidify and act on your purpose. ' In my opinion the book Purpose can be categorised as a typical philosophical book! This book gives a guideline for using our ' time, talents, energy, focus, and expertise to make it possible to start tight-knit communities around an interest, passion or goal.'
The book Purpose is divided into three parts . Part one includes the story and the progress of the internet and different websites including social networks and social media. The author who was 'a part of the community of entrepreneurs and builders of that technology wave' has shared the milestones of her own career also. To find out a purpose the author has given the 'Purpose 30 ritual ' which can 'completely supercharge one's creativity, resilience and ability to solve problems.' In the second chapter, the procedure of identifying and fixing the 'core community ' is given. The Procedure for acting as the host of a community is described by the skills required for the job. The core subject of the book ' digital culture ' is discussed in the third chapter. The process of creating a Digital community is explained in practical way and nice manner.
The positive aspects of the book include the fact that the author is one of the founder members who created and made successful companies like Ning and Mighty. On the basis of the experience of these successful ventures, she confidently claims that 'modern technology can help us find meaning in our lives and is one of the fastest paths to translating our purpose and purposes into richer, more rewarding and more impactful action.' She is very effective and impressive in the writing style. For example, she says 'I want you to start to envision a future you want to live in—and have purposes for each part of your life.' She is very specific to the points and has kept a firm grip on the subject and total say. She has used a scientific approach to explain the purpose and purposes and their importance in creating a digital community and presented objective procedure for anyone starting with a good purpose and ideal member, and ultimately reaching many, easily and comfortably.
What I found negative about this book is that the author has used lengthy narrations at some places : For example, discussion on 'meaning of life'. To me, it seems unnecessary to give an example for every point or any statement about a fact. The story of the internet, websites and their development , social sites, social media and the creation and development of companies Ning and Mighty could have been shortened. I don't know why, but while reading the book I had a hidden question in the distant corner of my brain- ' is this a creation for business promotion?'
The editing of the book is not professional one. I found at least two instances of grammatical/ punctuation errors. However for the positive points stated above, I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I appreciate author Gina Bianchini for sharing her own successful life.
I recommend this book to all the readers seeking a purposeful life . They will definitely and certainly be able to make their life most rewarding and most meaningful by reading this book. Those who have an interest in reading 'self help' books will especially like this book. This book can be a valuable aid for changing life from dull to an enjoyable state!
