Review of Reconfigurement
Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer can be termed a go-to book for today’s generation who have a problem focusing on long-term investment goals. It has become difficult today to set our minds on one type of investment. Many options are available in the market that provide assurance of high returns, but no one cares to explain the basics of these investments. As a result, we end up with an asset that looks beneficial in the short term, but as we reach our retirement age, the investment becomes a liability. Our parents used to have an investment in gold, real estate, or stocks since these were the only options available at that point. However, most of these simple decisions have provided them with blockbuster returns.
There are a lot of positives in the book. The book takes a deep dive into the struggle one has to face in calculating retirement. The generation in their thirties today could not imagine 65 years as the retirement age. It was considered ok during the time of our parents. However, today with the fast-paced world filled with stress, anxiety, and possible depression, it is difficult to think of 65 as a retirement age; most of the investments for retirement are still following the old rule-book, which needs to be changed as soon as possible. The book then slowly moves on to the different kinds of investments and explains them in detail. The explanation is clear and straightforward, which can be said about the entire book. It further presents the reasons one should select a particular type of investment. The biggest positive, though, is how the writer has tried to explain these like a conversation between two people. It is the biggest takeaway from the book, and there is no lapse in how it is presented, which establishes that the book has been exceptionally well edited.
I could not find any negatives in the book. We, as readers, get accustomed to the language after some pages, and then it is a smooth sail. I would be pleased to give the book 5 out of 5 stars. It has a lot of valuable gems which could be followed to ensure that we avoid falling into any pitfalls when it comes to investment. The book is a must-read for youngsters who are looking for some proper advise to generate a healthy amount on retirement and the routes to secure it.
