Book Review: Girl Meets Change by Kristen Strong

Post by LauraMcQuade »

I have seriously been into books on this topic lately, and Girl Meets Change did not disappoint! In a time of transition in my life, I appreciate the helpful, realistic, kind voices of those who have gone before me to act as a light on the path. That's exactly what this book is.

I often liken books to conversations. Kristen Strong came into my home, sat on the couch without caring whether I'd vacuumed, and started off right away with and endearing and nostalgic story liberally peppered with humor. Before I knew it, she was folding some of that laundry pile on the other end of the couch and teaching me about how to gracefully accept the transitions of life - and what to do when graceful acceptance just doesn't seem reasonable.

Unlike so many books of its kind, Girl Meets Change is not a list of "Shoulds" and "Should Nots." Instead, it's a loving bit of advice from a warm friend, offered with a cup of tea and a smile and not a hint of judgment. Kristen Strong did a wonderful job of presenting her message in a tone that makes the reader feel accepted and helped, and that's the best kind of message. She's very real, teaching primarily through her own struggles and readily 'fessing up to her own shortcomings, making it that much easier to welcome what she has to say with an open heart. She also writes simply, with easy-to-understand language and chapters that are easy to get through so you can take the lessons in whatever sized chunks you're ready for.

If you're a gal struggling with change - from small changes to big ones - I really recommend picking up Girl Meets Change. At the very least, it'll be a delightful read. If you're like me, you'll set the book down feeling empowered and like you've just made a wonderful new friend.
