The Stress Test: How Donald Trump Threatens American Democracy by William Cooper opens our eyes to Donald Trump’s fame, power, and its effects. William Cooper, an attorney, has neatly printed his columns from July 2019 (after the Democrats won the House majority) to March 2022, and he has divided them into subject areas. Some are significantly longer than others. Philosophical issues such as the press's relationship with the people are also addressed in their chapters. Cooper makes the case that, while America's democracy has not been destroyed, it has been greatly shaken by Donald Trump's presidency. Cooper used Nancy Pelosi's incident as an example in this book to demonstrate that when the government is unable to exchange viewpoints civilly, citizens should be concerned. Following the title, the book describes how the state has been put through a "stress test" under Donald Trump's rule.

The author is very vivid and direct. He is even-handed and very convincing. He is meticulous in his work and even went so far as to present the required legal background. He is even-handed, in my opinion, because he discusses both the strengths and weaknesses of each political party without deciding which is better and instead leaves it to the reader to make the judgment. He explains how the actions of each political party have harmed the practice of democracy, as well as how the media and the general public are involved.

In the negative section of this review, I have very little to say except that the author should have included a table of contents to make it easier for the reader, and the author states that in 2019, reports surfaced of Trump attempting to purchase Iceland. It was not Iceland, but instead, Greenland. These minor errors have no bearing on my overall rating.

I give this book a five out of five rating. It is well-edited. And I honestly could not find a single reason to deduct any points. To some extent, some may say that this book can even be used as a reference book when studying American history. It is very informative. As a columnist and an attorney, the writer has received acknowledgment for his work frequently. His work has even appeared in over one hundred publications globally.

I would recommend this book to anyone with a particular interest in politics and history or anyone who just likes learning something new every day. This book is appropriate for all ages since the language is friendly and it is also free from any explicit content.
