Review of A Dream For Peace
[Following is a volunteer review of "A Dream For Peace" by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah.]
A Dream For Peace is a captivating memoir that provides a personal account of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's life, which spanned a period of great change in Africa, encompassing industrial, political, and economic transformations. Dr. Berrah was a man of many talents who was deeply committed to the cause of peace. He served as an ambassador, politician, activist, spiritual leader, and former special advisor to the president of Côte d'Ivoire.
The book offers a unique and exciting perspective on the life of a peace seeker, chronicling the various adventures, challenges, and experiences that shaped Dr. Berrah's journey. He was a doctor, a revolutionary ambassador, and a man of strong principles with a vision for future generations. The author shares his struggles and contributions to the overall development of Third World countries, navigating us through the difficulties that these nations faced during their journey towards progress.
As I read through the stories of African struggles for independence, I came to realize that although they may have differed from country to country, the people's beliefs, spirit, and determination to achieve autonomy were unwavering. The book I read provided detailed accounts of the conversations, actions, and events that took place during this period of struggle. I was particularly pleased to see that the book included references to legendary figures such as Kwame Nkrumah and Jomo Kenyatta. Through the book's vivid descriptions, I gained a unique insight into their characters and experiences. The fact that the book was written in a truthful narrative style added to my enjoyment. Additionally, the photographs interspersed throughout the book were exceptional, providing a visual representation of the author's activities and the people he interacted with, which made the book feel even more authentic. The use of simple language in the book made it easier for me to read, which was crucial given its length. Overall, I found the book to be an engaging and informative read.
I found Ghoulem's disclosure of confidential diplomatic correspondence he had exchanged with other heads of state fascinating. What intrigued me even more about these letters was their writing style, which harkened back to the methods of communication from the 19th century, a time before the advent of email and social media. This highlighted the tremendous technological advances that have taken place over the years, which readers can appreciate.
Moreover, the memoir's collection of pictures had a powerful effect on me, as it made me feel like I was physically present during the events that occurred in Berrah's era. This made the book all the more captivating. The story contains elements of both suspense and humor, and Dr. Ghoulem's steadfast belief in the Almighty, as well as his views on spirituality, were particularly intriguing. I admired how he remained committed to the pursuit of peace, even when it seemed impossible. His selflessness, empathy, determination, and faith are qualities that anyone could aspire to emulate.
There was nothing I disliked about this inspiring work. The book was also professionally edited, because I only saw two errors. Therefore, I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this book to every African reader. The author’s story could inspire them.
