Ben was just 16 years old when he chose to speed down an old back road without wearing his seatbelt and was in a terrible accident that changed his life forever. He was always angry at his parents for making him do farm work that kept him away from his friends and playing sports. Laying there in the mud in pain, Ben regretted that he would never be able to let his parents know how much he loved them because he knew he was dying. Unbeknownst to him, the two people who found him after the accident were his parents, Kenny and Lana Hylden. When the Hyldens came upon the accident and saw the young boy lying in the field, they did not know he was their son because he was unrecognizable due to the severity of his injuries. It was several days later before Ben realized the miracles that had taken place in that field. Read Finding Faith in the Field by Benjamin Duane Hylden to learn about the miracles that occurred that day and how God continued to help Ben throughout his recovery and beyond.

Benjamin Duane Hylden did an excellent job of pulling out my emotions while I was reading this book. I was scared, sad, and happy throughout the book. I cannot imagine Kenny and Lana's heartbreak when they discovered the accident victim was Ben. Fearing for your child's life has to be the worst nightmare for any parent to endure. Looking at the picture of Ben's car at the end of the book made me cringe. This picture is only one of many photos of Ben's family, sports activities, and the accident at the end of the book. This book is a Christian memoir with many scriptures from the Bible, and it demonstrates the Hylden family's faith in God through prayers and attendance at a religious camp. My favorite scripture in this book is, "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,'" from Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV). This scripture reminded me that regardless of my plans, they may differ from what God has planned for me, and His plans will prevail. This book made me think of all the miracles I have encountered that I did not necessarily give God credit for.

Although I disliked nothing in this book, non-Christians may give more credit to doctors or provide other reasons for the miracles that Ben received rather than God. Readers need to believe in God, prayers, and miracles to appreciate Ben's story. Some readers may not enjoy these aspects, but they will not be considered in my rating because they are personal preferences, not negative aspects of the book.

I found no reason not to give this Christian book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. With only a handful of errors, I am confident that this book has been professionally edited. Actually, there was only one grammar error, while the others were the inconsistent capitalization of the word "bible," and none of them affected my reading pleasure.

The audience I recommend this book to is Christian readers of any age over 13 who enjoy memoirs. However, I will caution parents of teenagers that this book may distress younger readers with the gory content about the accident and Ben's injuries. However, on the other hand, they will learn about the importance of wearing a seatbelt, hope, and that anything is possible if they have faith in God. You may want to avoid this book if you are offended by religion and do not believe in God's power to perform miracles.

Wow! I love captivating true stories. Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favorite verses and I think this might be a great book to read with my teenage son. He may actually enjoy it as much as I will.
