Review of A Dream For Peace
I know many prominent men in the world for their work in science, engineering, and politics. Greater men are renowned for trying to make the world a safe and better place to live in. We celebrate the greatest men for trying to ensure that peace, not war, reigns over the earth. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah happens to be one of these distinguished men who makes it his life mission to fight for peace and freedom for all kinds of people. Dr. Berrah starts as a boy living in the French-occupied colony of Algeria. This young man strives to grow up in this stifling environment, reading and learning under the tutelage of his beloved mother. He finally moves to France and studies to become a medical doctor. However, the call to fight for his country’s independence is too great, and he becomes involved in students' political activities. His actions caused him some trouble with authorities. This does not deter this young man from continuously hustling for sweet freedom. Gradually, he builds up on his education, making headlines in the science world. Moreover, his best work comes into show when he becomes a diplomat for the government of Cote d’Ivoire. He works hard to promote peace not only in Africa but also in the rest of the world.
A Dream for Peace is Dr. Ghoulem Berrah’s autobiography, written in a record 644 pages, detailing this ordinary man’s extraordinary journey. He enthusiastically tells the reader about his life as if you were sitting next to him. The use of photographs, letters, and cards supports beautifully the rendition of the story. This makes the reader relive Dr. Berrah’s life vividly from his youth, his studies, and his travels up to his last days. The book explores all the aspects of politics, diplomacy, peace, war, love, and education in one’s life. The novel contains a lot of vivid descriptions of people, places, eras, and developments throughout history. There are also a couple of graphic scenes that involve violence and morbidity that are associated with war.
This book also delves into spiritual matters that seem to have taken center stage in the author’s life. Contrary to popular opinion, people of different origins and religious affinities can interact and live peacefully in one area. This is evident in the city of Jerusalem, where the world’s three major religions have important origins. The author, being Muslim, coexists well with people of other religions wonderfully, even to marrying a catholic lady. There are no negative aspects to report in this wonderful book.
The book appears to be exceptionally well-edited, as there were no grammatical errors present. I am happy to rate this book five out of five stars .
I would recommend this book to a mature audience of history fans, policymakers, and diplomats as they would greatly learn from A Dream for Peace.
