Review of Addressing Systemic Discrimination by Reframing the Problem
Addressing Systemic Discrimination by Reframing the Problem by Dr. Frank L. Douglas is a book that discusses the significance of promoting equity and inclusion for all people, regardless of their ethnicity, race, or financial level. The book proffers different methods of resolving discriminating cases along with examples from real-world situations. The author, who was moved by the rampant incidences of illegal murder and racism, examines these events through interviews with people who have encountered discrimination in their places of work, and when seeking medical care. The book expounds on the various ways in which systemic discrimination may present itself. According to the author, equal treatment of people from diverse backgrounds can eliminate discrimination. The author also argues that by reducing privilege or preference granted to certain groups of people, ensuring uniform application of organizational processes, and providing opportunities to all members, the organization can create a better working environment for individuals who are beneficial to the organization. To expand more on the importance of diversity and inclusivity in the workplace, the author added several case studies of people facing discrimination, and how to solve these problems.
Addressing Systemic Discrimination by Reframing the Problem is so educative and well-researched. I like how the author conveys his thoughts in the most understandable way. The book addresses the racial discrimination faced by many people in various aspects of life. I found the case studies to be revealing and educative, as they highlight the different forms in which discrimination can take place, especially in the workplace. The book also provides some possible solutions when one is faced with the problem of discrimination.
I enjoyed reading Addressing Systemic Discrimination by Reframing the Problem. However, I found a little fault in the book. The theories provided by the author for reframing the problems of systemic discrimination are not very well developed and explained. I found it difficult to understand how to apply these processes, and how to determine the most suitable one among all.
I will rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The book is informative and interesting. The case studies added by the author are well-developed and explained. Also, I was able to learn about the different forms of discrimination and possible solutions to these problems. I didn't find any errors while reading so the book was exceptionally proofread and edited.
I would recommend Addressing Systemic Discrimination by Reframing the Problem to heads of organization and policymakers. The book is also suitable for those facing any form of discrimination.
