[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Health & Well-Being Made Easy" by Toby Payne.]
This self-help book focuses on whole-body health and wellness. It addresses traditional areas of health including nutrition, sleep, and fitness. The book also covers the mental health aspects of health including social life, therapy and mental health, and sexual health. Each chapter is broken down into an explanation of why the author feels these areas are important for health and includes personal stories. The science and evidence-based support is then discussed. Finally, a succinct list of suggested habits is included at the end of each of the 12 sections.
Health & Well-Being Made Easy: The 12 Principles of Outstanding Health & Well-Being is written by Toby Payne. It is written in a format that is easy to understand for readers of all levels. The list of habits to adopt at the end of each section gives readers very specific guidance on how to make improvements in their everyday lives. The majority of the advice was sound and readers will benefit from implementing a few of the simple habits suggested.
The author is not a medical doctor or any other expert in nutrition, fitness, or psychology. I found some of the advice to be very presumptuous. The chapter on sexuality admittedly only focuses on heterosexual relationships. I also found it to be stereotypical and condescending. It assumes that women do not take an active lead in sex and need to be reminded to participate. It assumes men are more dominant or take the lead. This chapter could have been written in a much more inclusive way.
I rate this book four out of five stars for being a well-edited and easy-to-read self-improvement book. I noted no errors.
I recommend this book to adults who are looking for ways to make improvements in their overall health through changes in daily habits. As the book discusses intimacy, I recommend the book to an audience over eighteen years old.
