Jersey Lawman: A Life on the Right Side of Crime, written by Jim Plousis and George Ingram, features stories and real-life experiences from the life of a man who spends years working in law enforcement in one way or the other. This man uses doors and opportunities available to him to help out and give back to the community and works his way up from one of the lowest levels of the police force until he becomes a big shot.

Jim Plousis begins his career in law enforcement at first as a rookie cop. He doesn't stay that way forever, though. From being a part-time police officer, he gets fully employed and becomes a full-time police officer. While at Ocean City, he has some experiences, including an angry tortoise. He keeps climbing the career ladder. While getting appointed to hold various positions and work in different capacities, one thing remains constant — the need to help the community as much as possible. Spearheading a couple of movements and boards, he brings up ideas multiple times to help both the government and the citizens. With records of the numerous ways this man had helped many times, this book becomes a tribute to Jim Plousis and his countless acts.

I liked a number of things about this book. I liked how it clearly described Jim's movement to a state of success, from a part-time rookie cop to a U.S. Marshall and so on. I believe this would encourage anyone who might be thinking of working in law enforcement not to give it up. I also liked that while including the programs and movements he was successful at, he also included stories of ideas that had turned into failures, which I think would serve as a reality check.

I didn't find so much to dislike about the book, but one thing I liked the least about the book was the lack of continuity between chapters. Most of the chapters were independent of the preceding ones, and it made everything seem like a collection of random stories. I think this could have been avoided if the author had made each chapter flow into the next one.

I give this book a rating of four out of five stars. I deducted a star from my rating because of the negative aspect stated above. I did not rate the book any lower because it was well-written and passed a message of determination.

I would recommend this book to anybody working in the field of law enforcement already and to anyone who wants to go into the same field.
