Addressing Systemic Discrimination by Reframing the Problem by Dr.Frank L. Douglas is a book about racism and discrimination in the workplace. Based on the author’s extensive research into cases of racism and discrimination, Frank describes the causes of racism such as lack of empathy for black people. Citing several cases of racism and discrimination at the workplace, the author describes the principles for dealing with racism and discrimination such as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Safe Haven Dialogue that encourages dialogue between the affected individual and their supervisor as well as implementation of the Reframing process. He particularly emphasizes Equity and Inclusion for everyone as a means of addressing systemic discrimination and finding a long-term solution to the problem. If you feel discriminated against at work, if you would like to get more information about racism and discrimination, and if you need solutions to the problem of racism, this book is a must-read.

I like how the author presents several cases of racism and discrimination and provides solutions that if implemented can greatly help eradicate racism and discrimination in the workplace. One such case was that of JA who was denied a promotion for which he qualified, was called derogatory names by co-workers, and discriminated against at social functions. JA reported many incidences of racial harassment to his supervisors to no avail. There were several other cases that clearly highlighted racism. Such cases can be used as a basis for finding lasting solutions to this problem.

I disliked the formatting used in the first letters of some of the paragraphs. These made such words to be unnecessarily difficult to read and understand. But generally, the book was well-researched and provided a picture of the working environment for the black community.

I rate the book five out of five stars. It is exceptionally well-edited with no errors. The author should be commended for his extensive research as well as for providing lasting solutions to the problem of racism and discrimination by using the Reframing process.

I recommend this book to the Directors and Managers of companies and organizations and all the supervisors. Those going through such problems of racism and discrimination will also gain a lot on how to deal with such situations. I also recommend it to all the workers, for the book provides appropriate means of good working relationships among the workers for a better working environment.
