Review of Stress Test: How Donald Trump Threatens American Democracy
A few years after the controversial Trump presidency, the former president's grip on American politics is still felt today. Donald Trump has pushed the systems of checks and balances to their breaking point. But this stress test on American democracy is still not over. Human as we are, mistakes have been made on both sides of the aisle, not just by our elected representatives, but by the general public as well. It is time for all of us to take a step back and look at the bigger picture if we want this experiment to continue in good faith, not just for the sake of our country and our people, but for the world as well.
Stress Test: How Donald Trump Threatens American Democracy gives a solid, well-written, and most importantly, unbiased assessment of the current state of American politics. While the title may seem to be a jab to those on the right, William Cooper does them justice by pointing out the hypocrisy from the other side. Full disclosure, I am left-leaning. But my favorite part of this book is his willingness to call out the errors from my side. Politics is a dirty business. It is important to be reminded that the grass is not always green on your side. Another thing I liked is how he includes a brief at the start of each chapter so you can see how things have changed since the article was published. Not to worry, it is not all doom and gloom. Cooper also reminds us why American democracy is still strong and our duty to uphold it.
I do not have anything negative to say about this book. I just wished it could've been longer with more input from the author but that's just my preference.
This book has been professionally edited as I barely found any errors. While this may primarily appeal to American voters, it is still a very good read for anyone interested in politics. I would recommend this to pretty much anyone except kids and early teenagers. There are no adult themes or profane language. I would like to especially recommend this book to the swing voters who would appreciate an unbiased approach and those who are still unsure about supporting the former president in the future.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It fulfills what it sets out to do in a fair manner despite dealing with a very volatile topic. By being well-structured and edited excellently, it stands out as a solid book talking about the messiness of American politics.
