Discussions regarding discrimination against black people and people of colour are still relevant in today's day and era. Ironically, we are currently living in the 21st century yet are still facing this issue that should have been a part of the history of the world. It saddens me that discrimination also happens in working environments, which disturbs the system of the organisation.

Addressing Systemic Discrimination by Reframing the Problem by Dr. Frank L. Douglas has presented us with ways to combat discrimination. Douglas introduces readers to a new concept that stresses the importance of equity, inclusion, and individual engagement in dealing with discrimination in organisations. Equity and inclusion have been adopted by many businesses to address this issue. However, the implementation of this concept may not be carried out in the way it is intended. Therefore, this book discusses the reasons why the situation happens and provides readers with examples and solutions.

The author explains some types of microaggressions, which I believe every discriminated-against person would experience. This is helpful for people to differentiate the types of aggression they have experienced to overcome the issue. The book also discusses how discrimination in the workplace affects people and why it worsens. Interestingly, this book encourages the people who are being discriminated against or the aggrieved, as in the book, to initiate changes in the organisation to fulfil their needs at a personal level. Douglas lays out 18 case studies that the aggrieved could refer to.

I found nothing to dislike about this book. I absolutely enjoy reading it. Throughout my reading, I have never felt bored with the facts and pieces of information in it. Due to that, this book deserves a 5 out of 5-star rating for a few reasons. The concept proposed by the author is not particularly difficult for people to comprehend. As mentioned above, the key elements are equity, inclusion, and individual engagement. The author derives this idea from what has been happening throughout the years. This book does not merely put forward a theory for people to digest; it also demonstrates the usage of the concept in different contexts. In Part 2, the case studies provided in the book also include how the author would deal with the issue based on the concept he has introduced to the readers. This is an excellent way to make people implement the theory instead of letting readers figure it out on their own. For example, the author describes how to use the concept when dealing with a small, family-owned company. Readers could use these examples and modify them to meet their needs.

Besides that, I applaud both the author and editors for their exceptional work, as I found no errors in this book. I had a seamless reading experience as a result of their outstanding editing and superb organisation. I recommend this book to readers from all backgrounds because I think it is everyone's duty to put an end to discrimination in their daily lives.
