A Dream For Peace, by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, presents the history of Post Colonial Africa. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was not only a physician, revolutionary ambassador or politician; he challenged systems and continued to do his job in the pursuit of peace and unity. He gave us a glimpse of Third World countries that have had huge problems since gaining independence through the sharing of his story. In addition, he shared his own struggles, as a participant in the battles of Africa, Asia and the Middle East. There are many disputes in this book, as well as instances of racism, unfairness, and general misbehavior. Additionally, I learned a lot about the history covered in this memoir, as I didn't know much about it beforehand. The accounts of real life in this biography are fascinating, and the events are beautifully depicted.

It was a great book to read. Even though this is a memoir, the story has been written in such a way that it can be followed easily. I found the illustrations in the book to be really intriguing. The usage of foreign words highlights his ethnicity, therefore I was glad to see their definitions at the bottom of the pages in small font. It was very impressive to me how he had evolved from a liberating warrior fighting for Algeria's independence into a famous historical figure and example of diplomacy. I found it fascinating to read the recollections of a man who had the good fortune to interact with many influential individuals and thus was familiar with many historical characters from the second half of the 20th century. The book also contains some valuable lessons for life, and there's a funny side to it. When the writer suddenly took on a fish veterinarian's role, that was my favorite part.

I have nothing bad to say about this memoir because I found the advice and lessons it gave to be very valuable. I initially thought the book might be a bit boring, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Since there was nothing about this book that I disliked, I gave it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. The editing was excellent, the author had an engaging style of writing, and the story itself was great and compassionate, with many unexpected turns. Maybe I was not paying enough attention because I was so into the book, but I couldn’t find a single grammar error.

I would suggest this book to anybody who is interested in politics, culture, and history, but also to those who feel like they need a new dose of confidence in their own power.
