In the book Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer, you will get a thorough and easy-to-read version of what you can do with your money. Reconfigurement takes you through the many financial questions you’ve likely had throughout your life, in addition to providing many answers to questions you likely didn’t even know you had. Financial literacy is lacking for most adults despite it being such an important part of our survival in this capitalist society, and this book will give you a great overview of the main topics you need to know about as well as a deep dive into certain concepts and facets of personal finance. Fleischauer provides the reader with real questions that you can start to ask yourself about how to manage your money to help plan for a better future. Although Reconfigurement is targeted towards the age range of people heading into retirement, this book can be helpful for any working-age adult to be more knowledgeable and prepared for aging and managing finances more generally, both for oneself and for future generations. Overall, this book receives a four out of five rating. The book is filled with practical steps, knowledge, and information to guide you to make some of the most important financial decisions while also understanding their functional impact on your future. One caveat is that this book is based on the American financial market, and therefore some chapters would need to be modified to apply in other countries. Fleischauer adds humor to engage the reader and explains complicated concepts with ease. Due to the dense material covered in the book, one general recommendation would be to have a summary or overview following each chapter to simplify the concepts even further. Of note, this book is likely not appropriate for readers who have zero financial literacy, as some concepts are still quite complex even after Fleischauer’s explanation and would be better understood by someone who already has a foundational knowledge of the material. Fleischauer does not claim to have included everything related to personal finances in this book and has provided many recommendations about where to gather more information about oneself and various financial concepts/advice after the reader completes the book. This book provided a great summary of how to start to understand the very complex world of money and comes highly recommended!
