Official Review: The Awakening by Sameer Ram

In The Awakening, Sameer Ram hopes to help people tap into the immense potential which lies within everyone. Through his employment experience, the author developed a knack to simplify certain ideas. He decided to write his book after he learned certain spiritual practices to help make it easier for people awaken to their true potential.

Ram was inspired to create his book after read a number of self- help books. Most of the books did not have the answers to many of his questions. He thought he had found the “right way to live” after reading one particular self-help book but an extraordinary experience, which had a major impact on him, shifted his world view. The result of the life changing event set him on a path to spiritual enlightenment. He shares how his spiritual journey began, and explains how he learned certain spiritual practices.

The author states that a person can be transformed both internally and externally by implementing certain techniques, which can help bring balance to a person’s life. He provides specific actions readers can follow on a daily basis to create positive changes. Ram also shares what a person may immediately experience when he or she begins to follow the program.

The Awakening focuses on three phases that a person must go through in order to help shape their life: Cleansing, Internal Transformation and External Transformation. The phases focus on physical, emotional and social aspects of a person’s experience. Each technique in the book is designed to help those who follow the method to get rid of compulsive behavior; to improve self confidence; to awaken to the divinity of the universe; and to create a constant flow of joy and happiness in their lives.

Ram stresses that the techniques must be followed in a certain order, and provides an estimation of the average time period the practices should take effect. Even though he makes certain recommendations, the author does not aim to dictate the exact way in which a person becomes spiritually enlightened. Instead, he provides a framework to give readers the freedom to create their own spiritual path.

The author uncomplicated writing style gives readers a definition of Divine consciousness; explains how this concept is connected to a person’s “Ego”; and gives readers information about how people’s bodies are affected by the internal and external world. Ram explains how and why a person’s life does not exist in the outside world but within a person’s mind. One aspect of the book that is particularly interesting is his commentary about the “maps” of the mind and how they can be used to win the cooperation of the mind. There is also some information about scientific research that supports the effectiveness of visualization, which is a major component of the methods that are shared.

This book does have a few deficits. The author only gives insight into the experience of one person who used his system. He does not provide references for much of the information that was included in the book. Only two studies are used to support the benefits visualization and there are a number of grammatical and typographical errors.

I give the Awakening 3 out of 4 stars. The book gives detailed instructions about what a person can do to actually transform his or her life. The techniques are designed to accommodate people with different belief systems and there is specific information about visualization. The information about visualization will definitely help a reader if he or she decides to follow the techniques in the book.

If you are a having difficulty creating positive outcomes in your life then The Awakening may be the book for you.
