Have you ever wanted to improve a certain skill or chase after a particular goal, but you found that it just couldn’t seem to happen? No matter how hard you work at it, no matter how long you do it, it’s never good enough. You are never good enough. Why is it always so? In the end, you can’t help but wonder if you’re just not cut out for this. You might even start to accept the fact that you are and will forever be nothing but ordinary.

But, is it a bad thing though?

Always Strive to Be a Better You: How Ordinary People Can Live Extraordinary Lives by Pete Hall helps you understand the ‘science’ behind it all and the ‘magic’ to work it through. The very first thing that immediately hooked me to this book was the use of the greyhound and rabbit metaphor. It was an eye-opener for me. Through this book, I learnt that it seems to be humans’ desire to always be better, have more, and to pursue more -er in life.

Another thing I appreciate about this book is the use of seven ordinary people’s lives as the base of example instead of just quoting other successful bigshots or Mahatma Gandhi’s wisdom like many other self-improvement books I’ve read.

One thing to note from me is the existence of the pause button. Though innovative, it is rather unnecessary for regular books as readers can pause anytime they want. It may benefit audiobook users though.

The book seems to be professionally edited as I found the writings to be rather neat. For that and all the points I mentioned above, I rate this book a five out of five stars as this book is definitely worth any and all potential readers’ time and effort to dig into.

I recommend this Always Strive to Be a Better You: How Ordinary People Can Live Extraordinary Lives by Pete Hall to all of us who are working to be better and aim higher because the 13 key learnings within four tenets wrapped in this book as well as a coffee date with Plato are all you need to achieve more -er and spot your cardinal.
