Pregnancy discovery can be one of the scariest moments in a woman's life. How do you keep a baby alive in your womb until the delivery? How do you survive the actual childbearing? How do you know your baby is growing fine? When is it best to start baby formula, whole milk, and solid food? How do you handle your relationship with your partner? How do you split responsibilities, earn an income, spend time together, and do what suits the baby?

These questions and more are answered in Motherhood Confessions by Shalon Weddington. From her experience, research, and some advice from other parents, she details the process from the first pregnancy test to the baby's first birthday. She explains the struggles, ups, and downs. This book shows that parenting may be challenging but can be navigated with the right approach.

One of the things I love about this book is that a wide range of people can read and benefit from it — from people still in the early stages of child planning and considering having a child to expecting mothers and people already raising a child. You can read and enjoy this book and take home many lessons at any point in your childraising journey. This is also an excellent resource to share with your partner, family member, or whoever primarily helps you to enable them to understand you, share in your struggles, and offer help where necessary.

Without using too many superfluous words, the author touched on almost everything that could come up during childbirth, even things not commonly discussed. I liked that she didn't try to sugarcoat things or hide the bad parts. She put everything on display, even the mistakes made and the difficulties faced.

Self-help books have a reputation for being dull, but Shalon Weddington has proven otherwise in this beautiful book. The book is entertaining and informative. She invites us into her world and enables us to see things as they unfold. Anybody can relate to her and appreciate her journey.

As the author herself said, this book is best read twice. The first read will be to get a general idea of the process. The second read is to remind yourself what to expect and how to navigate them.

Present and past narratives mixed up in some places (I go/I went). However, I attributed this to the author's journaling of her experiences. Therefore, some of her entries would have been in the present tense. There were also many errors that another round of editing would fix. Therefore, I'd rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I'd recommend the book to pregnant women and their partners. First-time mothers would also benefit from the book's content.
