Niching Up by Chris Dreyer is a concise guide to finding the perfect niche for your business. This book is a great example of the increasingly common genre of business guides. Niching Up is a great work by the author, as it follows their business journey as he targeted specific niches. The book goes through the author’s thoughts when deciding whether to target niches or not.

As a business owner myself, I am glad to have the opportunity to learn from the author’s examples, which he perfectly presents in this book. The book is split into eight simple chapters, covering the pros and cons of deploying your business in a specific niche. The author ultimately states that the decision to target a niche was their best decision. It was interesting and enjoyable to learn from the author’s experiences as they took a significant and risky step in their business ventures. I also enjoyed how the book offered the reader practical advice on business management in more general terms. The author also interlaces general advice, such as mentioning the importance of building rapport with clients in order to gain repeat and loyal customers. Tips like this make this book interesting, and at no point did it feel repetitive.

I also enjoyed the tone the book took. The book was more like the author giving a seminar or a speech than just monotonous words on a page. I felt this book had great character, which made the overall experience of reading it far better. I was genuinely intrigued by the author’s business and story, rather than reading solely for the tips.

The only minor criticism of the book is its use of sporadic profanity. For some readers, this may hinder their enjoyment as it may detract from the otherwise professional content of the book. That being said, I personally do not find this to be a major issue and still enjoyed the book immensely.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. There were no major editorial mistakes that affected my enjoyment of the book, and so I feel this book has been professionally edited. I thoroughly enjoyed the book throughout.

I would recommend this book to any business owner looking to change or improve their business model. I also recommend this book to anyone interested in the process of running a business.
