Poppy Mortimer is a hopeless (or rather, hopeful?) romantic who has had quite the journey in love. In her memoir, 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir, she details to the reader her painful, sometimes insufferable, yet wildly entertaining, 28 dates. Disastrous, as she likes to put it. Poppy has an incredible way of capturing her audience's attention from the jump.

I swear Poppy Mortimer and I are the same person. As a current twenty-something-year-old, born and bred in New York City, I've gone on my own fair share of bad dates. I've also nicknamed the guys I've gone out with. I may not remember a lot of the mundane details, but I do remember how each nicknamed man made me feel. As ridiculous as my dating stories are, Poppy truly takes the crown. I loved this book and could not stop laughing. I felt like I was listening to my best friend telling me about her recent marathon of dates (since I read this book in one sitting and learned about each date back-to-back).

"The being said, the hopeless romantic in me could never give up on love, so, when I saw date 12 in the meditation garden, I was eager to give love another chance."

I found no errors with this book, nor do I have anything negative to say about it! I'll note, it might not be the type of book a man would enjoy reading, but I do recommend it as a "what not to do on dates" guide.

This book was an easy five out of five for me! To my fellow hopeless romantics, my fellow "the bar is on the ground" girls; this memoir is for you. Dating is hard. You can feel alone with your feelings sometimes. This book helps remind you that you're not alone, and sometimes the date is worth the story. I would recommend this in a heartbeat.
