Review of Purpose
[Following is a volunteer review of "Purpose" by Gina Bianchini.]
Purpose: Design a Community & Change Your Life by Gina Bianchini is a motivational self-help book for finding purpose and meaning in life. Divided into three sections and 14 chapters, the book guides the readers to use their time, talents, energy, and focus to identify a purpose and to build a well-designed, self-sustaining digital community that is valuable enough to be charged for. The author has discussed the importance and benefits of a social community and what actions are to be taken to set up a digital community more suitable for modern society for like-minded people with the same goals, interests, and needs. Also discussed in great detail are the scope of community design, quests, visions for the future, finding members, and the basic requirements to start a digital community.
There are many positive aspects of the book. The book includes daily practice steps to begin with and several templates and questions for guidance. The steps suggested are flexible and actionable. The book is dotted with anecdotes from the author's experiences and from the lives of celebrities as well as ordinary entrepreneurs. It is informative in the sense that the history of the development of social media and digital platforms is discussed. The difference between a social media platform and a digital community is made clear, and the benefits of a personalised digital network as a community over a social media platform are pointed out. The glossary explains the modern terms and definitions used in the book, which are very helpful.
The author's knowledge on the subject and her experience in the digital world add to the book's authenticity and credibility. I did not find any negative aspects of the book. However, there is always scope for improvement, and I wish the author had included guidance on some suitable software and digital tools to choose from.
The book includes a direct link to her site to watch a 20-minute video for free and get personal guidance through email. The editing is good, and the language is interesting and keeps the reader engaged. There is no reason to deduct a star, and I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars.
It is a book that can be put to practical use, re-read, and used to draw inspiration.
