This story is narrated by Keith’s wife and book author, Mary. The book begins with an introduction to Keith's early life, personality, and family background. An introduction to Mary is also given, followed by how they both met and got married in 2003. In 2009, just before his sixtieth birthday, Keith’s sudden blocked-intestine emergency turned out to be colon cancer. According to the doctors, Keith had only a couple of months left. But the doctors did not know that Keith and Mary were not willing to give up. What follows is a remarkable account of a journey that involved rollercoaster rides of multiple treatments, surgeries, chemotherapy, complementary treatment methods, survival, and lots of faith and hope.

I liked Mary’s storytelling style. She gave enough vivid details accompanied by emotions. Every word felt like it came straight from her heart. I could visualize Mary and Keith as I read the book. I also like that the book has so much to offer. It is brimming with helpful information for cancer patients and caregivers of cancer patients. The book is a testimony to the power of faith, hope, and perseverance. This makes it beneficial even for readers who have no connection with cancer.

The book has several technical terms related to medical science and treatment. The author has done a great job explaining these aptly. A glossary of these terms is also given at the end, with related web links for further assistance. There is a list of references to help readers learn more about various books, inspirational speakers, medical research, and websites. These references were used by Keith and Mary in their journey and quoted or mentioned in the book. There was nothing in the book that I disliked or wanted to change. The story flowed perfectly throughout. However, several significant grammatical errors made me deduct a star. I, thus, give this book a rating of 4 out of 5.

11 Years is an inspirational love story about Mary and Keith. The underlying message woven into every fiber of this story is to never give up. I recommend this book to anyone looking for inspiration or interested in reading a real-life story of hope and perseverance. I also highly recommend this book to people directly or indirectly affected by cancer.
