Let me begin by saying this book was a complete surprise to me. I have read other team-building books and self-help books. While this book is certainly both of these, it is also so much more. It begins by redefining the pronoun, I, by including how it is used within the scope of this teaching. The authors have successfully provided a definition and description of the way I personally see this pronoun in our communication; however, their definition managed to escape me until seeing it in their context. Thank goodness I can now explain this to others, if by no other way than reading aloud from Individual Influence .

Typically, team-building books and self-help books outwardly attract a certain audience. I would be quick to point out that Individual Influence , in my opinion, should be required reading (or at least highly suggested) for anyone interacting with at least one other person. This book flows easily, provides relevant examples via stories, recaps main take-aways after each section and both teaches and entertains during the read. This is accomplished without judging and condemnation, but with empathy, one of the key facets.

Although I have learned about these principles throughout my life, educational and career experiences, the way in which these authors have packaged their purpose, wrapped it up and placed their bow on top is nothing short of amazing. Now, when I turn on the news or observe other people, I find my mind returning to the teachings in this writing. With the divide in our world becoming more obvious daily, this way of conducting life could be what we need for better communication, better relationships, better self-awareness and the best success for ourselves individually and collectively. My rating for this book is a 5 out of 5 . With this being the first book in the series, the next installment has a high mark to hit. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to having the opportunity to read it. This book, the stories and teachings, are the closest examples of reaching self-actualization that I have seen recently. It is definitely worth reading and worthy of gifting to others.
