As a Social Worker, I have spent my career reading literature founded in resilience and thriving. It is often challenging to get my hands on a testimony sans a Disney ending. The tale as old as time where it all starts with the main character or theme as a victim of their environment tugging at your heart strings, repeatedly the underdog, and the grand finale of a rescue by someone or some system has gotten a bit tiresome.

When hearing or reading others stories, it is imperative to remember that we all have different levels of resilience and adverse childhood experiences making each journey unique. It's also important to note that artistic liberties to capture an audience sometimes skew a story into the proverbial victim's tale.

Thriving in the storm focused on personal accountability, responsibility for one's journey, and perseverance in life which is itself a storm. The author takes you through a personal, firsthand account of his background, his mistakes, his challenges, and his wins. His journey highlighted his action and how he was the author, no pun intended, of his own destiny.

The author could have tapped into a higher level of relatability if he had included greater depth to the current state of connection with those whom he mentions contributed to his foundational drive.

This led me to rate this read a 4 out of 5 being a very good and recommended read.

With regard to typos/errors and or being professionally edited, that is not my strong suit so without running it through Grammarly at a bare minimum, I am unable to say with certainty if there were professional errors. Because I did not notice any but again am not sure nor did it hinder my reading or understanding, I will rate it a 4 out of 5.
