A Voice From Heaven by Alexander V Girman & Cynthia J Girman is an absolutely breathtaking book about more than one can describe in words. Cindy, a devastated mother, mourns her son Alec’s death, communicating with him in the afterlife, attempting to understand his life, addiction, and journey through the afterlife. The book is unique, heartfelt, inspiring, and a rollercoaster of emotions. It really helps a reader put life in perspective while appreciating the nuances of the author’s life and understanding the layers of addiction. Something about the blurb of the book that drew me in was the fact that fifty percent of the proceeds from the book would be used for research on substance abuse disorders and treatments. I thought that that was an admirable and genuine step coming from people who know what it feels like to lose a loved one to addiction.

I have to start off by saying that I really enjoyed this book, from the beginning to the end. Was it always pleasant to read? Not necessarily. Addiction is a very tricky subject, and the loss that comes from it is trickier still. But the rawness of the tone of the book was heartbreaking, but there were also inspiring undertones to the book that I thought made for a very satisfying reading experience.

The book was written very well, I felt like every sentence was laced with uncensored emotion, and that is what made the book a worthy experience for me, personally. I do think that one needs to keep an open mind while reading this book as there are discussions of the afterlife and religion, but I think that you can read this book even if you don’t believe in Christianity.

There was nothing that I disliked about this book; there were no typos as well, meaning it was professionally edited. I rate this book a solid 5 out of 5 stars, as it was a great read.

I would recommend this book to open-minded non-fiction readers who want to read about an inspiring journey through the afterlife.
