Review of 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir
Poppy Mortimer, the author of 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir, outlines a snippet of her most entertaining moments in her dating life. A book highlighting the humorous and the traumatic, it truly is a faithful recreation of the experiences of dating for some. I must thank the author for sharing their stories of dating, some of which sound so surreal they would warrant a film, while others sound more like stories from the depths of our nightmares.
The author brings to their story a brilliant amount of genuine humour. I admire the author’s ability to look back on their wide range of experiences with such humour, leading to a great and entertaining reading experience. The author also narrates how she met each date, along with the actual dating process. Despite the book mostly showing the reader the highlights of the date, be it for good or for bad, I felt at no point did the writer exaggerate the events for comedic effect. Due to this, the book felt genuine, and the readers could share the brilliantly narrated account of the writer’s pain and joy throughout her experiences.
I would also like to note the excellent lessons the author left at the end of each chapter. It was great to see the author mature and learn from each date, making each subsequent date almost more suspenseful and entertaining. I am certain the advice at the end of each chapter will help people currently trying to navigate the turbulent world of dating. For this reason, I would say this book is more than a memoir; rather, it is a book with its own educational merits.
I could find no fault with this brilliant book. I am certain even the most critical readers will be unable to find fault with what is a brilliantly written narrative of the author's dating life.
I rate this book five out of five stars. I also found there to be no noticeable errors in the editing. For this reason, I would consider the book to have been professionally edited.
I recommend this book to anyone looking for a humorous account of the dating experience. I also recommend this book to anyone currently embarking on their own dating adventure. The advice given in this book is still just as helpful as ever.
