Review of 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir
The book titled 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humorous Memoir written by Poppy Mortimer is a memoir that shares the author's experience on dating. A funny account of the embarrassing and disastrous moments the author had while dating men.
Poppy Mortimer wrote this book to share the encounters she had with her past relationships. However, the main focus of this book is the dates she experienced and the lessons she learned through the years going out with men. She didn't filter her experience and choose only the good experiences she had. Instead, she included in this book even the most chaotic and embarrassing dates she ever had. She mentioned in the first part that sharing her story took a lot of courage. She said that she hesitated many times, but with a little determination and encouragement from her friends she was able to share her story. Reading this book would give readers a roller coaster of emotions; making readers laugh, giggle, and sympathized with the author.
The author mentioned that the experiences she shared in this book are not detailed. However, because of the friendly tone of the author, readers could feel that they were not left out and as if they were part of the author's life. The funny account of the disastrous dates she shared helped readers focus on the lessons to pick up instead of the embarrassing and chaotic events.
My favorite part of this book is how the author didn't mention the names of the men she featured in this book. Instead, she just gave them nicknames and some details like their age and how they met. This factor shows the professionalism that the author had, and despite how those men wronged her, she didn't expose their identity to the whole world.
Another factor that I liked about this book is its last part. On the last pages of the book, the author summarizes all of the lessons she learned through the dates she experienced.
Despite the fact that I found so many positive aspects of this book, I failed to spot any negative aspects while reading it. I also didn't find any grammatical errors. With that being mentioned, this book is exceptionally well-edited. Because of the reasons stated beforehand, I give this book five out of five stars.
This book is highly recommended for women looking for tips on what to do on dates. This book could also be read by men to find out the preferences of women.
