Involuntary Reroute by Robert Laney is a book about his entrepreneurial journey that capitalises on travel hacks to build an international enterprise. The book is a testament to Laney's determination and ingenuity, as he ventures into the business of air travel while still in college.

As a start, Laney's business model was on offering affiliates a minority share in exchange for the luxury of 75% off first-class tickets. His target market were individuals who were afraid of flying economy, and link flying first-class with a sense of prestige. Along the way, Laney explored other intriguing opportunities, such as the price differences between multiple-trip and one-way tickets, as well as IATAN IDs.

One of the book's most commendable aspects is witnessing a young entrepreneur bravely confronting various challenges with resilience. Laney doesn't shy away from hurdles, from dealing with rogue partners to navigating legal issues and cash burn problems. Throughout the book, I found myself captivated by his journey and how he adeptly tackled various obstacles.

The book ended with a staggering $18 million company valuation, leaving readers on a cliffhanger, paving the way for his sequel, "Totally Rerouted." I am curious to see how he navigates through the new complexities and opportunities that come next in the dynamic and competitive air travel industry when the internet becomes a competitive threat at that point in time.

Laney's writing style is casual and accessible, making the book easy to read and follow. I could connect emotionally with his experiences, feeling the injustices he encountered along the way and the gratitude he felt for the unwavering support from his mother and college.

This book is suitable for aspiring entrepreneurs looking for inspiration in the travel industry. It is also suitable for those who have always been curious about the inner workings of the air travel business.

Overall, Involuntary Reroute is a compelling and well-edited book with no negative aspects. Therefore, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
