Thriving in the Storm by William Murphy teaches you nine principles to help you overcome any adversity. The author identifies areas we can all work on to better ourselves and our lives. I highly recommend this book for its practical solutions and helpful exercises. The chapter titled “The Superhuman Power of Positivity” sums up the book best. Andy Andrews says, “You are where you are because of your thinking. Your thinking dictates your decisions. Decisions are choices. And if decisions are choices and our thinking dictates our decisions, then we’re where we are because of our thinking.” Which begs the question, what are you thinking and is it constructive to your life? The author helps you answer those questions in each chapter with his nine principles along with simple techniques to build the life you’ve always dreamed. Responsibility and accountability are also important factors for your growth that’s talked about frequently. Some of the tools he talks about are journaling, mantras, visualization, as well as, recording yourself speaking your goals and mantras. I like how he puts himself into this book by using examples of how he’s applied these techniques throughout his life. He goes into how he’s changed physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually without forcing you to believe what he believes. This is a book that can help you on a self-discovery journey that is well worth your time. I think one of the most rewarding chapters was “Identify and Break Your Negative Patterns” because I think we can all agree it’s a difficult habit to break and negativity is something you see all too often. There are some examples that are a little redundant but also used as good reminders of what you’ve already learned. If you really want to see transformation and excel in this life then this is the book for you. 5 out of 5 stars.
