This is a light tour through the value community plays in a person's life. The author outlines the issues surrounding a person without purpose, explores how to find that purpose in community, and then details how she was able to take that community online. The internet has destroyed many aspects of community we one held in common, yet provides other opportunities for building for the future.
The book is at it's best working with personal antidotes , and the checklists make a complicated process seem achievable. It is a broad treatment of the subject, with many areas able to support books of their own. The book does an excellent job in making the case for participants to take responsibility for their own role in community, that each person has the capability to serve as a digital host in providing the community for others as we look for a place to feel at home in the digital world. Each of us must choose to build the community that we want in order for it to remain. When we take the responsibility off of the platform and look for how to use the technology available to create our own structures, it is possible to find the community we want. The author outlines several parts, including identifying your big purpose, outlining a year in the life, arranging a weekly calendar, identifying monthly themes and questions that will arrange your community according to your purpose. She will set you on a Purpose 30 to identify your purpose and a 21-day challenge to help establish your community. She will help you form your future story so that, when you look back, you will be able to identify the points that led you to your ultimate goal. Following this program step-by-step will assist all who are looking for that purpose and community in their lives. I am confident that those who use this book day-by-day will be successful in what they establish online, especially if they take time at the beginning to identify what their unique contribution is.
The book is a great outline of this person's specific system; for those looking on a more in-depth examination of establishing purpose and the importance of it in our lives, that is not this book. But it succeeds at what it sets out to do, being a quick and accessible primer that will get people started on finding community in their own lives. 4 out of 5 stars.
