Always Strive to Be a Better You: How Ordinary People Can Live Extraordinary Lives by Pete Hall is a self-help book to guide the ordinary person to experience an extraordinary life. According to Plato, the overarching purpose of human existence is to attain our ultimate potential. But like the greyhound chasing the rabbit on the race track, the human ultimate potential is elusive, which leaves us the option to chase improvement, continuous growth, and progress. If experiencing a happy, virtuous, and good life entails a continuous effort to be better, greater, or stronger, how do we progress toward our potential? What strategies will help us achieve our objective? Pete Hall, using the lessons and paths of seven individuals, demonstrates how the ordinary individual can live an extraordinary life.

This book explores how to live a happy life by explaining the concepts of Personal improvement, continuous growth, developing a positive mindset, being a leader with integrity, setting priorities, and helping others achieve their potential. It is divided into four parts named "tenets" and thirteen chapters tagged "key lessons." The division of the book in this order will guide the reader through the concepts of personal examinations to identify strengths and limitations, developing habits geared towards achieving set goals, becoming self-propelled leaders, and maintaining the set path without self-sabotaging efforts. The author narrates personal stories and the background stories of the seven characters, which add depth to their personalities while highlighting challenging times and turning point moments.

This book features dialogues between the author and the characters and the author's and characters' narration of events that impacted their lives in an interview style. These discussions are interesting and eye-opening and will engage the reader. This book is written in an alternating-person point of view, alternating between the first-person when the author narrates personal stories or ideas, the second-person point of view when giving instructions and guidance to the reader, and the third-person point of view when the author refers to the characters in the book. The author's choice of words and descriptive prowess made it easy to assimilate ideas and concepts. The author also used literary tropes like analogies and metaphors to express certain ideas and concepts, such as comparing the human pursuit of a happy life to a greyhound's pursuit of a rabbit on the race track.

Pete intermittently highlights essential points, words, and ideas using italicized and bolded fonts and text boxes. This book additionally includes exercises that the reader can engage in while reading, with detailed instructions on how to carry them out that are easy to follow. The author equally developed and shared tools that will be used by the reader, such as the "powerometer" gauge that measures the real-time strength of the mind, body, and spirit. The above-stated aspects of the book are why I enjoyed it and had no reason to dislike it. Also worthy of note is that this book was professionally put together. For the above reasons, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Always Strive to Be a Better You: How Ordinary People Can Live Extraordinary Lives is a practical guide and is highly recommended to anyone seeking to improve aspects of themselves, not limited to habits, leadership roles, starting a new business, time management, improving communication, starting new relationships or amending troubled relationships, and especially finding and knowing themselves.
