Entrepreneurship: 5 Best Practices: For Stay-At-Home Moms Who Want To Start An Online Business
By Patricia Jennings
I stumbled across this book a few days ago, and I knew I had to read it. I've always wanted to have kids and become a mom. But it was only recently when I was having a conversation with my partner and we both knew we didn't want to wait any longer.
That's when I started to realize, I wanted to be a mom but I didn't want to give up on my creative side. I didn't want to give up being the girl who loves making content for her insta-blog, who wants to start a store for her homemade jewelry, who want to be her own boss and start a business.
I started thinking it could be only one or the other. I could either be a mom or an entrepreneur. It freaked me out. My partner assured me that I could have both. But I didn't quite believe it. But this book changed my perspective.
Patricia Jennings starts the book my showing how moms actually become better entrepreneurs. She realistically approaches the topic. To start an online business, a mom first needs to figure some things out. Is her family supportive enough? What are her childcare plans? Are you skilled enough? Do you have the seed money? These questions will guide you in whether you should be starting an online business or not
The book guides us through how to come up with the perfect business plan, what are tools you will need, what kind of research will you need before starting a business, how to take care of the financial aspects of the business.
In this book, Jennings was able to incorporate different resources a 'mompreneur' can use. (Yes, I picked this term from the book, and it's so cute). She mentioned apps that can help manage time. She also mentioned some fellow monpreneurs, who's stories might give you the inspiration you need.
In addition to all of these, Patricia Jennings also mentions some YouTube channel that might help an inspiring monpreneurs along the way. She gives us some ideas on starting an online business, like becoming an influencer, which interests me the most.
Another thing that scares me the most in finding the work-life balance. I don't want to be the kind of parent who never has time for their kids or even themselves. This book touches topics like professional-personal life balance and how to manage self-care as a business woman.
All-in-all, this book is worth giving a read if you're a mom or mom-to-be who also wants to start a business. A mom who wants to be present but doesn't want to loose herself in her family. Even if you don't plan to be a mom, this book might help you understand your own mother better - it did for me. I'd give this book a solid four stars out of five.
