[Different Family Structures is a succinct book about family types and values, written by Mildred Stallworth. As the title suggests, the book features relationships, issues, and provisions in a family. The author has discussed the concept and purpose of family, the different types and sub-types of families, and the challenges faced by them. The book emphasizes the importance of family in an individual's life. It also deals with the role of the moral values of the members and the environment in the family in developing healthy relationships and the growth of a child into an honest, sincere, and responsible citizen.

The best aspect of the book is its conciseness. The author has defined and discussed effective parenting and core values, such as honesty, compassion, commitment, responsibility, positiveness, perseverance, and many more, that are necessary in a family to provide the foundation for a stable society. The author talks about living a Christian life, but it implies a moral and religious life favoured by every religion, and she does not preach Christianity in any way.

There is nothing negative about the book. The author does not disapprove of single, unmarried parents but advocates the sanctity of holy matrimony between a man and a woman. She has also included the topic of same-sex marriages and their legal and social aspects. She has quoted the views of actor and evangelist Kirk Cameron against it, disapproving of any attempt to redefine marriage and referring to Adam and Eve—one man, one woman for life.

The language of the book is simple and descriptive. There are several quotes from celebrities and many photographs of happy families, including mixed-race families and a gay couple with a baby. However, I wish there were captions with the photographs to enhance the effect. The editing is not perfect, and a few minor errors have crept in, but they do not have an adverse effect on the reading experience. My overall rating for the book is 5 out of 5 stars.

The book is a short treatise on family structures and does justice to the theme. I believe it will be loved by people interested in the social aspects of a family and their impact on an individual. I especially recommend the book to someone studying sociology and human behaviour.
