Living Fulfilled…The Infectious Joy of Serving Others by Eleze “Lisa” Thomas-McMillan is an inspirational memoir.

Lisa has never been wealthy, but that does not keep her from giving what she does have to others in need. After meeting some poor elderly people in her small hometown in Alabama, Lisa realized that hunger is indeed alive and well in America. She does not hesitate to get involved. Her passion is people, the problem is hunger, and the solution is giving. Lisa finds that although giving is a sacrifice, it is truly fulfilling.

After starting a food bank, Lisa tries to make the government aware of the hunger problem in Alabama by walking 110 miles to give a letter to the governor. Later on, she walks over 800 miles to Washington DC to give the President a letter. This time she is hoping to raise awareness about the inhumanity of capital punishment as well as hunger.

The book is separated into four parts. The first part tells us about her past and how she came to start the food bank. Part two encompasses the walk from Alabama to the Whitehouse. The third part switches back to her life and talks more about who she helps. Part four gives short inspirational stories and explains practical ways that we can help others. Because this book covers so much, it can feel a little disjointed between the different sections. While I enjoy the content, I feel like it could have been arranged differently to be more cohesive.

I am so happy I had the opportunity to read this incredible story of a woman who is overflowing with love and compassion for people in need. I am amazed at how much one woman with so few resources can accomplish. Her story touches me personally because when I was a child we struggled financially. Sometimes the only thing keeping us from going to bed hungry was the kindness and generosity from random strangers. I have always been thankful for people like that, but never really thought about how I should be looking for opportunities to pay it forward. This book has motivated me to do just that.

I am not usually one to highlight sections in books, but I did in this one. There are some amazing truths in here that could change the entire world if we would only put in into practice. Because I could not decide which one I liked more, I have included two quotes from the book below:

“A willing poor man can do just as much with his resources as a reluctant rich one.”
and,
“Remember that being kind to others should never be a random act. It should be a lifestyle.”

Truly an inspirational read, Living Fulfilled…The Infectious Joy of Serving Others has earned 4 out of 4 stars. Aside from the sections not flowing together perfectly, this book is wonderful. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in making the world a better place.

This does seem like an interesting book. It's so easy these days to get caught up in trivial things that seem important and take up a lot of time. Its good to read something like this and get a better perspective on what things are really important in life, and what a person can do about the important things. Good review!

Thank you! It is quite amazing, especially since she is not a young athletic type of woman when she does the walk. But she is passionate and determined!

This book has been an inspiration to me and has inspired me to help others.

This book shows the joy of assisting others. It's a reminder that there are still good people in the world.
