Butterfly Awakens by Meg Nocero is a story that revolves around healing after grief. The main character loses her mother to cancer. It is about how she gets through the pain of losing her. The writer goes through a series of difficulties as her grief continues to affect several aspects of her life. We read about how her relationships and her work life are affected. After her mother’s passing, the world around her doesn’t pause. We read about how she struggles in a world full of people that don't fully understand her grief and her inner battles.

The easiest thing to love about this book is the bond shared between the characters. The writer has explained this in detail. The explanation is important because it familiarizes the reader with the characters. Without reading about all the ways the mother had been wonderful, the reader wouldn't be able to empathize with the writer. Because the writer took her time sharing how incredible her mother was, I felt extremely emotional when she passed. It was also wonderful to read about how the family tried to save her till the very end. Although they may have felt hopeless at certain points, they tried to see the light at the end of the tunnel. This is praiseworthy.

The writer’s frustration with the outside world felt extremely relatable. When we experience pain and loss, we expect the world around us to slow down. We expect others to understand our pain completely and bear with us while we find our way out. The writer is no different. She struggled in her marriage because her husband wasn't able to help her beyond a point. She also struggled at work because nobody could do more than offer their condolences. All these difficulties are very real and something individuals go through all the time.  Readers who have had similar experiences will be able to relate to the writer a lot.

Readers can also learn from the effort the writer put into moving on. The process of moving on from difficulty is not without its ups and downs. It is a process in which individuals may feel great one day and the complete opposite on another day. The writer goes through several difficulties in addition to her mother’s loss and she fights through them all. She does fall back sometimes. However, she fights harder afterward. This was extremely motivating to read about. She used her grief as her strength by using her mother’s memories as something that should help her move forward.

There is nothing I disliked about this book. All the areas have been explained incredibly and do not require any improvement. Although this is a book about grief, it did not feel like it was boring or too lengthy at any point.

Readers going through grief will find this book extremely useful. Even normal readers looking for a book with a great message will enjoy this book. This book has been edited flawlessly and I would rate it five out of five (5/5) stars.
