Jan Ryders' book should be a required information for every family, illuminating the successful intergenerational path of our business and the value to serve our business.
Every great business ends up being a reflection of a personal vision of a leader. Jan Rydes remarkable tale of self development and his creation of a belief system that defines Hostens has transformed what was once saddle maker into one of the world's most unusual and exciting companies. This book is well worth reading, if only for the simple pathways we can all attempt to follow.
I just joined the book review and got interested in the book by Jan Ryde (WHEN BUSINESS IS LOVE).Brain science has awakened me to the critical importance of sleep- both for mental health and mental acuity. Yet the extraordinarily quality of the Hostens bed is surpassed by the values and culture that defines the company. Jan Ryde sees LOVE as the defining principle of his life and work, and wants to not only elevate the way we we sleep but elevate the way we live. The spirit of Hostens is not only the story of a bed designed and made by love but a company fueled and driven by LOVE.
The author of this book (when business is love) Jan Ryde, is the ceo of Hostens. He's the fifth generation family member to lead the powerhouse bed manufacturer since 1852. He studied industrial engineering and management at Sweden's Linkoping institute of technology, where he received a master of science in business. As an associate professor he earned among the highest students ranking at Linkoping University, wher he taught business for several years prior to taking the helm at Hostens. As with every employee- regardless of their ultimate role in the company, Jan begun as an apprentice, learning and contributing to each step in the process of handmaking a Hostens bed.
What has inspired me most is how multiple generations of other families continued to spend their careers at Hostens, dedicated to improving people's lives by helping them sleep well and beautifully. The authors stress that not only can it be, it must be. After experiencing all of the pitfalls of a business that didn't put love first, the leaders of softway discovered that by leading with love they were able to not only meet business objectives but also treat people around them better and make everyone in their business happier to work for them. By leading with love in business, companies will be able to create a culture that attracts people and retains top talent, influence the behavior of everyone around them for the best, and ultimately meet their business goals and achieve more than they ever thought possible.
I rate this book 4 out 4 because it has inspired me most of how I can assure my business success through love and help my community youths to be delivered from idling and offering a new training to hand work through creative ways in which they will make items through weaving, crocheting of bags, mats, ponchos and varieties of baby clothing and products. When business is love will be my favorite and role model book.
